Enhance
Business Growth
Build A Strong Sales Team
The success of any business leader or owner is a direct result of the quality of the people they have working
for/with them. Many great leaders have claimed that surrounding themselves with quality people has been a major
factor in achieving their current level of success and business growth. This is particularly true in multilevel or
network marketing where the success of the team leader is totally dependent on the efforts and actual results of
their team.
When we look at the roll of a sports team coach, we notice that they don’t get on the field and help the team and
in fact they very seldom get the chance to show how well they can perform. In most cases financially they will make
less money then the team members. Even though the money analogy doesn’t quite fit into the multilevel marketing
strategy, the single most important thing the coach does do is to make sure that the team knows the fundamentals of
the game.
Team leaders in multilevel marketing play a similar role to a coach. Although it is a rarity that they will ever
tell a team member that they are not performing as expected and ask them to leave the group, any team member that
is not making money will most likely leave on their own. As the team’s coach, it is expected that you provide each
member the opportunity to succeed by making available the training necessary to perform as expected and reinforce
their own commitment to become an independent business owner.
Even though multilevel marketing fundamentally has you working for a company, the independent distributor is their
own boss and totally in charge of their own success. Remember that not everyone has what it takes to be self
employed and not all members of your team will have the internal drive and dedication to be successful. The
effective team leader understands that their success is based on the success of their team members (through
commissioned sales) and therefore makes sure that those team members that who wan to be successful can accomplish
just that.
Although making sure your team members understand the process used for success is usually accomplished by holding
sales and training sessions, individual effort may sometimes be necessary to reach maximum potential. An effective
team leader is able to recognize each team members’ strength and weakness and assists them in overcoming their
weaknesses while simultaneously exploiting their strengths, ultimately making them even stronger.
The question of weather a team leader should tell their team how much money they make results in a split response.
Some see it as a motivating factor in expressing earnings potential for all team members and indicate that as long
as they work hard and smart, they could make as much or even more. Others may feel you are getting rich from their
efforts while they continue to struggle. Knowing your team members and what motivates them will help you decide
which tactic will work best. Using the wrong one can come back and bit you while the right one will pay rewards in
spades.
